Section 1

Launch Of Indlinux in Indore


In co-ordination with SARAI-CSDS,LUG Jabalpur , Linux User Group Indore and Linux_iips, IndLinux was launched in Indore on 24th April '05.

The launch was done by Mr.G.Karunakar,Member,IndLinux Project.

The session started with introduction to Hindi Translation in Computers.This was followed by demonstration of Indlinux on Rangoli Live CD.

Mr. karunakar enlightened the audience about the Hindi and support in Linux and Unicode , and how this can be usefull to us.

This was followed by a short hands on experience on Ind-Linux.

The launch session concluded with a query section on Indlinux,Open source and Linux.

This was followed by introduction to Linux user groups in Indore.

Linux_iips and Linux User Group Indore

At the end of the meet the copies of Rangoli Cds were distributed amongst the audience.



Section 2

This mesage is for people who want to start with Linux.
If you like,please circulate this among your friends who want to learn linux
please pass on some comments so that i can improve upon this
based on the feedback I will another section next time.

  • where do i start in Linux?

first of all you all need to learn a little about History of Linux

  • which Linux distribution to use?

Knoppix(knoppix.net ) or any Live CD based distro is good for starters
Next you can work on any Linux distribution
Linux Mandrake is easy to use and install for newbies.
there are a lot of distributions out of the distributions that i have tested
the best distribution for me has been Slackware,the latest is 10.1
but it is not for newbies but for advanced users in Linux

  • how do i get the distribution?I cannot download those large ISO files.
contact any linux user groups in you area
